I have the honour to acknowledge the re-

ceipt of your Despatch No. 239 of the 25th, of June last on

the subject of the salaries and terms of service of Chinese

Medical Officers employed by the Colonial Government.

I now forward for your favourable consider-

ation a copy of a minute from the Principal Civil Medical

Officer which deals with the various points raised in your

Despatch together with en amended scheme which it is hoped

will remedy the various defects in the scheme originally sub-

mitted. It is intended that this new scheme shall not be

confined to Licentiates of the Chinese College of Medicine,

but shall include the other qualified Chinese medical Officers

mentioned in Part II of the scheme.
